My life with smartphones has been pretty short-lived. A few years back I got an iPhone 4 (this was my first smartphone).  As I’m sure many of you can relate, it quickly became attached at the hip. I’m a big fan of iOS, and it’s polished feel. But, my thoughts about the grass being greener on the other side started to sneak in after my acquisition of Google’s Nexus 7.

When my iPhone 4 finally bit the dust (battery seems to be an issue), I decided to dip my toe into the Android pool. I have very little regrets about my move (I’m a self-proclaimed Google fanboy). My one minor concern is that I can no longer communicate via iMessage. This wouldn’t be an issue if I can convince the rest of my family to make the switch to Android too 🙂 I’ve found workarounds for this though. For instance, I now use Skype to communicate with my Mom (who uses an iPad or desktop computer).

I didn’t want to go into any technical details about my Nexus 5 experience, as this has been covered by many others on the Web. A Google search will surely turn up hundreds (thousands?) of hits.

Maybe to close things off, I can list some of my favourite Android apps (many of which are cross-platform). My favourites are:

  • Hangouts (my SMS and IM app);
  • Chrome;
  • Remember the Milk;
  • Evernote;
  • Gmail;
  • Youtube; and
  • Instagram.

I also use Podcast Addict to keep up on my podcasts!

What’s your preference? iOS or Android?
